The new gym at the "Giuseppe Mazzini" primary school in Via Bariglaria, in the Godia-Beivars district of Udine, has been inaugurated. This significant public project is the result of collaboration between the local administration, educational institutions, executing companies, and local associations. It was created to finally provide this school - the only one in the city lacking a sports facility - with an adequate space for physical activities, educational programs, and community events.
The project was co-financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) amounting to approximately €1.8 million, with an additional contribution of around €400,000 from the Municipality of Udine. The total cost of the intervention is €2.5 million.
The work was carried out by Gesteco and F. & B. Compagnia Costruzioni Immobiliari Srl, and stands out for its design focused on functionality, durability, and adherence to minimum environmental criteria (CAM). In particular, Gesteco’s Prefabricated Division handled the production and installation of the load-bearing structures, ensuring reliable completion times and full compliance with the relevant technical standards.
The new gym spans 900 m² and includes a 120-seat grandstand, changing rooms for athletes and referees, first aid rooms, and spaces for school and extracurricular activities. The building is equipped with a 65.6 kW photovoltaic system and a heat pump system, which ensure energy needs are met while minimizing consumption impact.
In addition to the students of the Mazzini School and the nearby Gabelli Kindergarten, the facility will be used by sports and cultural associations in the neighborhood, thanks to its CONI certification which confirms its suitability for competitive activities.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Udine, members of the city council, representatives from the school administration, and local associations. From Gesteco, Adriano Luci, President of the Gruppo Luci, and Alex Luci, Administrative and Operations Manager, were present. Alex Luci emphasized the value of an intervention “built with attention to quality, safety, and functionality, in close synergy with the institutions and the community.”
This project is part of a broader vision of urban and infrastructural renewal aimed at providing neighborhoods with adequate spaces for education and social interaction, in line with the environmental and economic goals set by the PNRR.
